Locations in Charlotte for Free / Discounted Scrap Lumber (custom home, neighborhoods)

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone knew of locations in Charlotte or the surrounding areas where there is discounted or free scrap/leftover lumber? I was thinking places such as cabinetry shops, lumber yards, etc. I have no problems finding shipping pallets for free, however, I was looking for better quality wood. Any help and suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Depends on how large a piece you need. Try construction sites. Anything longer than a foot may be hard to find except where a custom home is being built.

Side note: Its a little disturbing how rarely you hear a saw at a construction site in these tract neighborhoods now.
