Any recommendations? I will have my mother-in-law and a gaggle of kids so don't want anything too far off the path.

If you have a gaggle of kids, I'd recommend Mellow Mushroom adjacent to Romare Bearden park @ 255 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
