Hello. I do not live in Charlotte, but intend to meet someone in Charlotte Saturday. Only thing about that is, based on my sabbath-keeping understanding, I am not trying to go anywhere that I would have to spend money. What are some nice parks in Charlotte, preferably ones closer to the southern part if possible (but any will do)?

Thanks!

Southern part of Charlotte as in Ballantyne, Pineville or Steele Creek? All the have very nice parks. Check out the parks info at http://charmeck.org/mecklenburg/coun...ages/home.aspx

Charlotte's original Greenway Park, McAlpine Creek Greenway, built in 1978, was the first public greenway trail ever acquired and built in the western piedmont of North Carolina.

It is open North of Monroe Road. On the south side it is closed due construction. It will open in August of 2015. This greenway is used for cross county events by colleges & University and high schools.

You many see deer on this trail.

I'd recommend Freedom Park. That would be my choice if the plan is to meet someone and hang out for a while. Lots of people-watching, a nice pond to stroll around, connected to a creek/greenway. Very nice, pretty. No admission charge, free parking.

Freedom Park is very nice if you don't mind getting closer to the city. If you're out by Union County, try Colonel Beatty Park. Pack a picnic. There's lot of picnic tables, and a nice pond to walk around. Also in Ballantyne there's a nice greenway that starts off Johnston Rd (just north of 485) and goes all the way to Rea Rd by Trader Joe's. A good 4 mile round trip walk can be had there.

Since your on the southern side of the city, I recommend the Belle Jonhston Park on Jonhston Dr. It is located in Pineville off Hwy 51. Very laid back, clean, safe, lots of parking, lake, and other ammenities. I love taking my kids there to enjoy family outdoor time .

If you are looking for a play ground, Davie Park is excellent. Totally fenced in, a lot of play structures.
