It's a MUCH nicer place to live than Greensboro or Concord in my opinion. Plus there is an Indian community there near the Wake Forest campus!
Agreed. Greensboro is such an armpit of a city. I'd take Winston Salem over GBoro any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

I have been to Greensboro several times. To me, it seems dingy, dirty, and rundown. Oh and sort of gross.

I think the OP should primarily be looking at Winston-Salem too, but this characterization of Greensboro as NC's version of Detroit is WAY off.

No one has likened it to Detroit as best as I can tell? Detroit gets it's own special place atop the list of "awful for many reasons" cities. Still doesn't mean GBoro can't suck on it's own. haha

I say go for Winston. I love, love Charlotte. But... The drive isn't worth it. At all. Especially if you live in Concord. Towns like Concord are a dime a dozen in Charlotte, Winston, Greensboro & Raleigh. Winston is more like Charlotte than Concord is like Charlotte. I say pick Winston. Come visit us whenever for our Thanksgiving parade, Carowinds, whitewater, etc.

Notice I said "Detroit of NC;" it was a bit of hyperbole to characterize how some were describing Greensboro. It's a bit unwarranted in my opinion.
