Hello all!
My family and I relocated to Charlotte 6 months ago. My wife is Czech and had numerous Czech friends in the last city we lived. I feel bad for her as she still has not met any Czech friends in Charlotte (something about the ability to speak your native language). It also helps to immerse my children in the language when they hear people speaking it.
Several clients of mine have introduced us to "Czech" friends which inevidibly reveals they are from another Eastern European Country.

Does anyone know of any Czech gatherings in the area? Any Czech's on this forum?

I actually knew several Czechs...worked with them. Unfortunately, they have all moved BACK to Czech. Sorry!

That seems to be a trend everywhere with their economy growing like crazy.
Thanks for the reply!

Charlotte does have some eastern Europe subculture, but it seems more oriented toward Bosnia/Croatia and Ukraine based on the stores and bakeries I see.

Vmax- I use the same phrase regularly!
Sean- We regular many of the European stores in the area for things like flour and chocolate. Amazing that something as basic as flour is so much different than ours.

What is different about the flour and where are the different stores? Please tell us of any other goodies you have found different from our own.

European flour is much more fine than ours which really changes the texture of their baked breads, dumplings, strudel, etc.
There is a European grocery on the corner of Independance and Matthews- Mint Hill RD, in the shopping center with Americana Restaurant.

European Cheeses, many are actually from the PA Amish in these stores, pastries, breads, spices, and sausages such as klobasa (kielbasa) are all drastically different than the items we are accustomed to here.

According to my Czech neighbor on the coast, one looses the fluency in the language if it is not spoken. There is also no-one here for her to talk to, and she telephones her relatives regularly.

Perhaps your wife could start a Meet-up group. Perhaps they could do video-conferencing once a month if there are not many.
