We're planning a "halfback" move (NY to FL, now halfway back), and have seen some gorgeous houses and condos in the Lake Norman area.

We're also retired snowbirds, spending our summers in Central NY. So we'd be part-time LN residents, probably Nov-Apr, and are wondering what the Lake area is like during the winter months. Different from summer, we assume, but how different? Boating activity? Traffic on 150 still heavy? Can winter weather get unpleasant?

Would also appreciate comments on local restaurants. Any really superb? What are the "go-to" places...you know, the ones you patronize because the food/service are very good and the prices very reasonable.

Probably have a hundred additional questions, but your help with these will get us started. TIA!

Weather here from November-April is a mixed bag. Sure there are definitely some beautiful, sunny and clear days but we also get cold rain, ice, sleet, freezing rain and snow. It is way better than up north weather wise though. We have a boat we use on Lake Norman but typically only use it from May-early October. The water isn't really warm enough for swimming until late May.

Traffic on 150 is always bad. We live in Huntersville near Birkdale and while is crowded the atmosphere and proximity to the lake, 77 and shopping/restaurants makes it worth it for us.

Restaurants in the area are plentiful. We prefer locally-owned vs. chain so here are some recommendations:
131 Main
Jack's Corner Tap
Eez Fusion
Alton's Kitchen
Rusty Rudder (not for the food but for the lake and marina view)
North Harbor Club (great views and food)
Port City Club
Dressler's
Red Rocks

Over all we LOVE living at Lake Norman.
