We live here in the Charlotte area, but visit Orlando very often (about 5 weeks a year). Thought it can get humid here, it's not nearly as humid as Orlando's tropical climate. There are MANY areas (any gulf coast state; even eastern NC) that's more humid than we are in here in south central NC.
August is no picnic weather in the piedmont, but its not quite as bad as central FL (like orlando or Polk/Hillsborough county where I've lived).
And better yet it doesn't last as long!
Whats great about central NC is getting to turn off your AC in your car and house for almost half the year in fall and spring. You could try that in FL but I don't reccomend it!
