I like solid, crusty whole-grain bread that fights back a little. (I grew up on Wonderbread, which you could compress into a couple little marshmallow cubes if you had fishing in mind...)

So far, the gutsiest bread I've found is the whole grain loaf at Harris Teeter, but I'm sure local bakers in town can do much better.

Recommendations?

Local Loaf at 7th Street Market is excellent, as is Duke's Bread at Atherton Market and Nova's on Central Avenue.
