North Harbor Club on Lake Norman probably has the best atmosphere for outdoor dining. It's part of the Marina and has a great view of the lake at exit 30.
I also love Coca Osteria in the Hearst Plaza courtyard downtown. Wonderful restaurant and great for people watching.
Village Tavern and Red Rocks @ Strawberry Hill are nice.
CJ - I second!!!! We discovered VT and RR when we were staying at Strawberry Hill - when we first moved here - and we still like going over to both of them!
Not sure it is considered outdoor dining, but there is nothing like going to Prices Chicken Coop (to go only) and eating it by the Light Rail tracks in SouthEnd or going down to Freedom Park on a warm day! YUM!
what is Red Rocks and Strawberry Hill? I have been to VT many times. Very good!
Strawberry Hill is a very nice older townhome apartment complex at intersection of Providence and Fairview. It is surrounded by a lovely brick fence, and inside the fence are several retail establishments, including Red Rocks restaurant!
That little enclave reminds me of a place in Kansas City that I liked to frequent, so I enjoy going over there. Well prepared food and decent wine list for a warm Spring afternoon.

This sounds like a true Southern experience to me. Flavor of Charlotte!
Strawberry Hill is a section just North of the intersection of Provindence and Fairview Roads. It's tucked in behind the Exxon gas station and Strawberry Hill Apartments.
There is a Rite-Aid, Fresh Market, bank, and the above mentioned restaurants with a few other places and boutiques mixed in.

Have you never been to Price's Chicken Coop on Camden Rd in SouthEnd? A Charlotte tradition for the last 45 years!
