Hello all,
After a year and a half of searching, looks like I'm going to be acceping a job in the Myers Park area of Charlotte. Considering that most of my interviews were in Wake County, this comes as quite a surprise to all of us! I am looking for recommendations on where we should settle. We will rent it first, just to be sure, but eventually hope to buy in the same area we rent. I don't want my young children to have to keep switching schools. We are moving out of the city, and are not looking to move into any other city! We would like to be in a suburb, good schools, family neighborhood, and no more than a 20 to 30 minute drive to Myers Park. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Myers Park is very close to center city. If you want to be 20 or 30 minutes to Myers Park in rush hour traffic you will have to stay in Charlotte.

You are lucky to have accepted a job in the absolute best part of Charlotte. If I were you, I'd plop down right in Myers Park. Either that or South Park. There aren't as many named subdivisions like you'd see in the actual suburbs (20-30 minutes out), but you'll find very close-knit neighborhoods like Club Colony, Barclay Downs, Foxcroft, etc. Myers Park also offers the best schools in CMS (my humble opinion but also check NC report card). If you move out to the suburbs of Ballantyne (CMS) or Union County (UCPS) , you'll also find great schools, but why commute in when you could live there. You're going to get more house for your $ out there, but otherwise I don't see any pros of living out there and driving in.
