So Ikea is already hiring. I'm thinking it will be open earlier than planned..Maybe by Xmas??? I don't believe they would hire 5 months prior to opening..What you think?

Maybe they need all that time to learn the names of things as simple as a table or chair in Swedish.....have you seen the model names of their furniture?

I would think March. The place is pretty unique and from the ones I've been to the people are pretty knowledgable. They probably give them at least 3 weeks of training and whatnot. I'm all ready to stock up on cabinets from the garage. No more 8 hour down and back trips to ATL for me

I wish it was opening for Christmas. They have fabulous contemporary Christmas stuff, ornaments, lights, wreaths - a bit pottery barnish for walmart prices! Love love love Ikea.

Is it just me, or are their TV commercials really odd?

There's no way they're opening by Christmas. I ride by it ever day on the bus and it's no where near that kind of ready. The parking area isn't even graded out for curb and paving. Once we see asphalt, I'd give it 45 days or less.

I know about the drive. I was going to do it this month but have decided to wait. I just didn't think it would take so many months of training for their employees. However, I can't wait for it to open anyways!!!

I know someone that just interviewed with IKEA. They had 6,000 applicants for 400+ open positions. Some employees will begin working in early January. They have to fill the store with products. The target opening date is still "Spring" 2009 but there will be an announcement around December 10th regarding a more specific date.
