I have herd from many individuals that the Gastonia Westfield mall is dead with not that many stores. What do you think and do you visit any stores at the Gastonia mall?

I'm not a big mall shopper but it seems fine to me when I go there.
It has Belk, Dillard's, JCPenney, and Sears, as well as typical mall stores. Maybe not quite as good as the Charlotte malls, but certainly adequate for the area. But it does not however have a Macy's. For Macy's, you have to go to one of the Charlotte malls. And SouthPark is the high end mall that adds Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus into the mix.
For the demographic the mall is fine. Those that complain that it is dead or doesn't have any "good" stores, doesn't understand the need to feed the demographic. We visit there a few times a year to either go to Sears, Belk's or Dillards....it works. If I get the urge (not likely) to buy foreign and cheaply made clothes that I have to give an an arm and leg for, then I can always go to Charlotte.

That's the closest mall to me and that's pretty much the only mall I go to. I guess some people would consider it dead..compared to other malls such as the Carolina Place Mall, but I personally rather go to the Gastonia Mall anyday vs. Carolina Place Mall. The Gastonia Mall has a lot of nice stores and it's a lot less crowded. When I go to the Carolinas Place mall, I circle around forever to find a parking, but not at the Gastonia Mall.
Westfield meets my needs as well. I don't shop at Macy's, Nordstrom or any of the higher end stores. It is located nicely off the interstate and easy to access. Overall a good mall especially comparing to other surrounding cities of Charlotte.
Macy's, like Belk, can be reasonable if you shop the weekend sales combined with a coupon. Always watch for 30%-40% off and then use a coupon for another 15-20%. And every 5 or 6 weeks they have men's sale 25% off coupon with limited exclusions that works on Ralph Lauren and most high end designers. But Iv'e been very pleased with the Macy's brands such as Alfani, INC, and Tasso. Have shopped at Macy's since they were Hecht's and Rich's. It is Nordstrom that has the way high prices, so I don't fool with them. I also like Kohl's and JCPenney which are more reasonable. And JCP is getting ready to stop the weekly sales and coupon strategy and go with permanent 40% markdowns.
