After four and a half months of looking and applying to jobs in the Charlotte area (also expanded to most of NC and SC) we are getting a bit discouraged in my husband's job hunt. We're debating about paying $100 to upgrade his resume and make it more visable to those looking through resumes. But, $100 is a lot of money...worth it if it gets a job, but a lot of money to throw away. Anybody have and success or failures with career builders resume upgrade?
Multimedia Technology...that's part of the problem...there isn't a realy good job board fit for him...not really IT...not really a graphic designer (so much more than that)...etc. He produces multimedia presentations including video componets, graphic designs, audio editing...like PowerPoint on steroids. He could work for a marketing firm, or do instructional technology, or specialize in one of his fields audio editing, video editing, or graphic design.
oh, has he tried Sologigs.com? lots of jons there and theladders has technology and marketing jobs on their site...I found theirs very helpful because the membership also provided a resume tune up.
Location: Some got six month some got one solid. But me and my buddies all got lifetime here

Network, network, network. Around here it seems to be a lot about "who you know". With as many people already down here looking for jobs and tons more looking to make the move, networking will give you that one big edge that a lot of others may not. A lot of companies offer monetary incentives for employees to bring people they know into the company. I imagine the theory is that they're more likely to get a good employee from an internal reference as opposed to hiring someone off the street. That would give your husband a pretty significant edge.
I paid $50 for an upgrade on career builder and no responses whatsoever! Dont waste your money on it ! It's a scheme to get more money ! What was I thinking????? Goodluck to your husband to find a job, Im hunting as well and I have a degree in construction management and had ZERO luck!
Has he tried applying with the Discovery Channel? Also, the City of Light (or whatever those ministries are called) are building in Indian Land. He needs to be creative to try to get into any company that might have a use for his expertise. They are not always the straight path, or intuitive. Try the Advo website...they are a large ad/mailer producer. They might have virtual positions in Charlotte (I think they are based in Hartford, CT since I've interviewed with them once for a finance position).
Has he tried Dice.com? Also even the financial companies need skills like that. They have their own marketing and branding groups.
