The situation - Two progressive mid-30s professionals with hopes of kids who would like to find a house in the 275K - 325K range in or within a 20 minute drive of the Yorkmont, Yorkmount, Yorkwood neighborhoods.
What drew you to these areas?

The above areas are safe for the most part, although things can get lively every so often (once in a blue moon).

Traffic is heavy in the Yorkwood area and will depend on where you are coming from. If you are coming from a city with less congestion like Greenville, SC, Portland, Maine, Manchester, NH, or Knoxville, TN the traffic in Charlotte will feel worse. If you are moving from a place like Southern California (like me), Washington DC, Seattle, etc... it will feel better or comparable depending on the routes you need to take.
I'd honestly recommend opening up your commute to 30 minutes because the Yorkwood area is likely not right where you want to live. 30 minutes will open up many of the neighborhoods I suggested. Ironically the Charlotte's Farmer's Market is located near the airport and would be one thing on your list that would be local to Yorkwood.
Plenty of options for a PA in Charlotte. Atrium Health (formerly Carolinas Health System) and Novant Health are the two biggest hospital groups with locations across the metro. Carolina Medical Center - Pineville Hospital (part of Atrium) is closest to Yorkwood. You also have large specialty practices like OrthoCarolina, Charlotte Ear, Nose, and Throat, Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine, Tryon Medical Partners, etc...
Are you looking to rent a single family home or are you open to renting a townhome / condo? The South End area might be a good central location, not too far from Yorkwood, to start your first year in Charlotte and put you right in the middle of the metro for exploring other neighborhoods to see where you want to settle down. Lots of great restaurants, breweries, independent shops, etc... in that area.
Thank you for the thoughtful reply. We're coming from VT where we have been spoiled by minimal traffic. Your recommendation regarding an extended commute up to 30 minutes is no doubt good advice, though it will be an adjustment.
We're now planning to take a trip down in the coming weeks to explore a bit for a rental.
Can you please elaborate on the "South End" area and what that exactly means?
Thanks also for your input regarding medical practices in the area.

SouthEnd is a neighborhood near Center City with breweries, housing, shopping, farmers market, restaurants, cafes, etc... it is very popular. https://historicsouthend.com
Simply where my job will be located, nothing more.
You might want to check the new Berewick development. It's in a good location, geographically, and it's in an area that's growing/thriving (which would make it a good investment).
Other areas, like Madison Park, would be an excellent choice as well.
I would also recommend an area on the other side of town: Sardis Woods, which has a diverse selection of housing stock; nearby greenways/parks, etc
