Thanks for the kind words, CLT4. There are some great mom n pops places. The Webb Custom Kitchen in downtown is one of the best fine dining establishments in the whole Charlotte metro area (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzLeFEWbEn4). Give it a shot sometime if you have a special occasion or a nice night out. My wife and I love the place. Where do you live?

That's their specialty at WBTV. The day the news broke about the casino, I was accosted by one of their anchor/reporters. He asked my opinion and when I gave it he was very disappointed & he said no one was upset. I suggested a couple of other towns where he'd get negative responses. He told me he was sent to that location (which was not within the Kings Mountain city limits) and told not to leave until he got a negative reaction. That night they aired one reaction, the less than positive reaction that he eventually got. They sent crews to cover anything negative about the casino that went on here. Those people are a tiny minority of the local population. WBTV has an agenda. I was a broadcast technician for 20 years. I know how it's supposed to be done.

I haven’t eaten in Gastonia for a few years but use to love Rodi’s on Garrison Blvd. I was very surprised when I first went there. It had wonderful cuisine and a very nice atmosphere. I was sad to see it closed.

We are in Charlotte between South Park and Ballantyne. I'm looking forward to checking out Webb! What a beautiful space and the menu looks amazing. Definitely adding that to the list, thank you!

Hate to break it to anyone who is trying to make Gastonia have the rep it did twenty years ago and more, but all the type of people who gave it that rep are either dead, in prison, or moved.. Same for Lincolnton which use to compete with it..

I'm sure it still looks like a old downtown area, but aside from petty thieves and low-ball drug dealers there are no problems. Uptown Charlotte has a drug dealer at every gas station and homeless people with mental issues roaming everywhere.. It doesn't stop six figure household yuppies from jogging at night and going shopping shoulder to shoulder with all of them..

I was there.. I knew the people.. I've heard from a lot of old school Gastonians about how it is now..

Honestly ... the downtown area doesn't look bad. I've been there a couple times now at night and nobody is walking around there - at least on a Friday or Saturday night. In the daytime, mostly it looks clean and with some nice buildings.

Land has been cleared across East Franklin Blvd from the middle secton of Franklin Square. They've been grading it.

Five Below has now opened near the Verizon store. Academy Sports is going into the former Kmart spot. They will share the space with Burlington.
