We’re about to buy in the Charlotte area and it would be helpful to know who built the homes as we first look at them online if not later. Most of the homes we’re considering we built within the past 20 years, many within the last 2-10 years. I’ve been able to figure out who the builder was in a few cases but it often takes quite a search. Is there an easy way to find out who built a resale house? There are some builders we have more confidence in than others.

I'm not sure there is a way other than Google. Where are the neighborhoods? Depending on where they are and if you'd feel comfortable, posters here might know the builders.

You could dig into the county's deed database to see who owned the lot at the time the house was built. However, if you go back into the 1990's, it is a PDF database and rather laborious to search.

WONDERFUL. I just looked up a couple homes/subdivisions online at Welcome - Mecklenburg NC ROD Web Access and easily found who built each home in seconds. Much easier than the sleuthing I was doing. Thank you very much!
