We are a family of four and have friends visiting, which makes us 8 adults and 8 kids. We are planning a trip to Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock and was wondering if they give out concessions or coupons on ticket prices. Total ticket price is coming to $656 (50*8 + 32*8) and any concession we get will be really helpful.

Not a huge discount, but State Employees' Credit Union (SECU) sells tickets in all of their branches (not sure if you need to be a member, but if you are not, you probably know someone who is who could get the tickets). The adult tickets are $46 each. No discount on the children's tickets. You might want to look into AAA, too, if you are a member.
Another tip is that you can go the afternoon before your full day. If you enter after 3 PM, you can use your tickets the next day. We did that when we went, and it was great to have the extra time.
Actually, since you are 16 people, you should be able to get the group rate which is for 15 or more people. Group prices are adults $44 and children $25. Just for one day only - not sure if you can do the day before thing. Look under Groups on the Tweetsie website:

OMG . . Really glad we went many, many years ago. Don’t remember the cost, but it was not noteworthy. Back in the day, the train ride was pretty politically incorrect. Believe its more Kumbaya these days.
Unless the kids are real small, You’d be better off, IMHO, to go up to Damascus, VA and ride down the Virginia Creeper Trail.

I just looked up the VA creeper trail.. its beautiful.. thank you for the info.. we will plan to visit it once the kids are a little older !
Aren't there radio promos from time to time? I want to say I've heard a few over the years. I'd just call them up and ask what they can do. If you're a member of any organizations, ask if they offer discounts for them. Boy Scouts, Shriners, etc.

I have to ask: what, possibly, could be politically incorrect about a train ride?
It’s been years, but there were fewer “bad guys” attacking the train, and much less “violence” toward them the last time we were there when compared to the first time.

It had a "Cowboys and Indians" theme with folks dressed up as both. Been ages since I have been, but you can see where that could go wrong.
