Hi Everyone,

We are moving to Charlotte from the UK next year and wanted some advice on a few things if possible. We are relocating with our two children (under 5).

- is there a big difference between private and public schools?
- what are the average class sizes in elementary schools in nc?
- are schools regularly inspected and rated? If so where can I find these reports?

Area wise, we like the look of Myers park but houses are a tad expensive! Any recommendations on good, safe, family friendly areas in a short commute to the city (with good schools)?

Thanks in advance x

1. It depends. The best public schools will give your children just as good, or better, of an education as many private schools. Obviously, the top private schools are much better than the "worst" public schools. Parental demographics, involvement, etc. plays a large role in student achievement, however.

Many people choose private schools for religious reasons. The cost of some private schools is astronomical, imo.

2. 18-20

Class sizes for K-2 will be 18. Which is putting a strain on the schools, as they will then need to hire more teachers. Overcrowding in the area is a concern. It leads to redistricting which can take you from one school to another.
