While I want to live in 2 bedroom house not a condo, and have a yard, I'd like to live as close as possible (walking distance preferable) to coffee shops, restaurants and a grocery store. I'd love to live in a neighborhood with a community feel. One of us is likely to get a job in the service industry, so I am wondering if there are area's like that where you can walk to work and walk to get groceries, but not have to live in a condo. Where should I be looking?
Birkdale Village, Baxter Village, Dilworth/South End/East Blvd area (last area IMO would probably be the best imo and is close to a lot, including the light rail, the trolley, uptown, a nice park, etc) There's a Harris Teeter, a Talley's and Home Ecoonomist Market (natural food stores), a Super Target, a Home Depot,a slew of restaurants within 5 minutes drive or walk, a Starbucks, some other local coffee houses, I could go on. Most houses ar enice, but older an historic and have yards.

Your price range is $200,000 if I remember correctly? I have a few ideas but will have to send you the links on direct message
I second the Village of Rosedale grocery shopping, hair cut, dry clean, mailbox etc, doctor offices and daycare are within walking distance. So so on restaurants but the Village Rider shuttle frequents that area hourly during the day time to explore other restaurants.
Im not sure if Birkdale would be ideal there is no grocery store within that shopping area and you would have a long trek with groceries from the Lowes grocery store to your home.
