i have just moved to Charlotte not long ago and i am looking for good places to take my dogs. they are both friendly and good with other dogs. i would really enjoy taking them somewhere with water for them to swim. i live in the south charlotte area close to park road plaza and not far from south park mall if that helps. also, i know of the lakes around here (norman, whylie, and mt island) but i dont know of any public beach area or anywhere to drive up to (in a car) and let the dogs go! thanks for any info or help that you may have!!!

I take my precious dog to Jetton Park in Cornelius on Lake Norman. Lots of people do this, and the dogs can run on the beach and frolic in the water. The water is low now, so there is a lot of red mud, so be aware that clean up is not fun! I make sure the car seats are lined with plastic and/or towels for the ride home and then it is straight to the bath for him!

Across the cove from Jetton is Ramsey Creek Park. Plenty of beach and less crowded (in fact, there's never anyone else on the beach). Ramsey Creek also has a 4 acre fenced in dog park, 1 of 4 in Mecklenburg County.

Just remember that you must buy a pass for the dog park. It's a nice option, too!

Default dog park info

Haven't decided if this is good or bad yet but as of 7/1/08, pooch passes will no longer be required for any of the off leash dog parks. Kinda worried that aggressive dogs and not vaccinated dogs may cause a problem!

Anyone familiar with Colonel Beatty Park? Someone sent me an e-mail about dogs being able to swim there.
