We are going to be in NC in 2 weeks for an exploration trip. We are planning on spending several hours every day exploring certain areas we are interested in. One of those is Charlotte's surrounding areas.

We are a family of 6. We are looking for property, or a home on a decent sized piece of land. Any advice on particular areas that would be good for this are appreciated.

We want to be close enough to an area for a landscaping/hardscaping business to thrive.

Again....any areas to look into would be most welcome. We are open to other areas west of Charlotte or North of Charlotte also. I have a sister in Winston Salem area, but we love the water and want to be near enough to a lake to visit often and I don't think there is much in the way of lakes/rivers up in that area.

Budget? Size of house? How much land? Is your plan to operate the landscaping/hardscaping business from your home? Will you have customers visit you there? Is the quality of public schools an issue?

Budget around $1,000,000. Public schools aren't an issue. Would like a few acres...some of which will be used for a shed for landscaping equipment

Customers will not visit our property. We currently service an upscale area in NJ and want to develop the same down there over time.

Check down in Union County...Wesley Chapel/Weddington type areas. People have larger yards and larger budgets. I'm sure there's also good areas north of the city near Lake Norman, but I'm not as familiar up there. You can also look out by Lake Wylie, but commute will be longer to the "rich areas".

The area between Mountain Island and the Whitewater Center is probably what you are looking for. North and South of that area are where upscale properties are being developed and potentially require landscaping. You're also near landscaping supply businesses (lumber, granite, etc.) on Rozzelles Ferry. Plenty of land up there that hasn't been developed yet and it's cheap.

I’d look around the Weddington/Indian Trail areas. There are still a lot of lots for sale in those areas and some nice older homes on large 2 acre lots for sale through there under a million, but also a TON of new developments down there anywhere from $350k into the millions, so plenty of money making opportunities for landscaping and development.

For west of Charlotte and incorporating your wants, look at Kings Mountain, outside the city limits. There are expensive, sometimes large properties in and around Gastonia, Kings Mountain, and Shelby. Look at Kings Mountain, not just because it's in the middle, but there's a temporary casino (think slots parlor) just south of town and will be replaced by a permanent facility. The casino is coinciding with the push out from Charlotte getting to Kings Mountain.

In addition to proximity to Gastonia and Shelby, Kings Mountain gets you about 40 minutes from Hickory. I suggest that you study Google maps.

There are some residential properties south of Hickory, in proximity to Robinson Road, that may interest you for business purposes.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. I'm looking forward to more, if anyone wants to chime in, and to visiting those areas that were suggested. We are staying in Denver, and will be doing a lot of driving around and scouting. Thanks again

Check out the area east of Mooresville on 150 & 152. If you are looking for land the eastern part of Rowan County has a lot of old farms up for sale. Between Rockwell (north of rt. 52) and High Rock lake. The area runs from I-85 to RT 49 (Richfield).
