Abbington is in a nice area, and the community itself is nice as well. I walked thorugh a Grady Cook model there and liked it, but it was out of our price range. I don't know about their reputation, but the house did have a nice feel to it.
Harrisburg, in general, is a good area. Schools are rated well, taxes are reasonable, and you have pretty easy access to I-85 and I-485 for commuting.
If you visit Abbington, I'd also check out Niblock's Kensington Forest development right across the street. Niblock is a local builder, but bigger than Grady Cook, and they have a good reputation. They're "semi-custom" and can accomodate changes to their standard floorplans if you have things that you'd like to modify, add, etc. Their prices are a bit lower than Abbington's too, but they're still on the higher end for the area (I believe they're from the low 400's and up).
I am sure you will find that Grady Cook Homes a very reputable home builder in Cabarrus County. When contracting on your Grady Cook home you will be meeting with Grady Cook, himself. He was featured in Builder Architect Magazine a few years ago and has stellar references. You can contact any of the local real estate firms and they will all sing his praises. His quality and workmanship is unmatched. He also stands behind his product past the closing of the home well into the future. I know him pretty well. I am his daughter.
