My tomatoes aren't setting fruit. I have six plants and five tomatoes. Any thoughts on why? How are your plants doing?

Perhaps your tomato plants are introverts?

Barb - I am picking 3 fruits a day from 2 trees. There is some browning on the leaves which I just break off, otherwise they are fine. I can't think of a reason why?

Thanks, for the info, bibit. I must be doing something wrong. Maybe it's because you are further south (closer to the Equator) than I and the sun is warmer??????

Interesting thought Hoagie. If this is true, these plants are exceptions in my family.

By chance did you plant the q.u.e.e.r. tomato seeds?
They do not bear fruit.

J/K kids relax.
I have had two q.u.e.e.r.s. call me a 'useless breeder', so poking fun at plants in not done in malice.

ROFL! C-G would probably let MMan wear it for free . . . C-G is that kind of guy!!!!

But back to Barb's plants . . . Barb - mine are setting fruit - just a while from maturity yet. I have not been watering my plants as I should and I think that is part of why mine are not yielding well. Also, I think that the heat so early may have stressed my plants, as several of my flowers are not doing well like they have in years past. Heck, even my dill is not growing! All but one variety of mint is not growing well, either.

I typically have relied on rain and only had to water occasionally, but this year, I think I should have watered nearly daily or at least every other day (when it was so hot).

The other thing I think about is the lack of honeybees - would this affect tomatoes??

My tomato plants were off to a very slow start and looked sickly for the first month, despite my amending soil, using root blast, etc. I have been growing tomatoes since I was a child and frankly, other than one year when I was in Kansas, this is the worst my tomato plants have ever looked! So I gotta think it is something environmental (heat, lack of regular watering).

But these are all just guesses on my part.

The disappearance of honeybees is very disturbing, especially since no one knows the exact cause. At the same time, it has never been universally agreed how exactly honeybees navigate. One idea that the proliferation of wireless devices is inhibiting their 'radar'.

And I type this from my iPhone, so I am not exactly helping if that is the case.

Ani. What you say is sad, but does make me feel a little better about my own plants. I have to DITTO what you said about this being one of your worst tomato years ever. I usually give my extra ones away. In my case it can't be the lack of honeybees because my neighbor has several hives whose tenants are buzzing all over my garden.

Sad thing is that my plants were off to a great start - I grew them from seed and got them in early - all set for a bumper crop ... lots of tomato sandwiches.

And why are bibit's doing so well?????? Maybe it's because you and I live within the city limits midst all the crime???? Are the hoodlums intimidating my introvert tomatoes from setting fruit?

Hee Hee Hee. Yes, it must be the thugs, LOL!!! My plants are being shy and hiding out b/c they are intimidated by the thoughts of criminal activity!!!!

Maybe Bibit has had more rain . . . ??? I know there have been storms down that way that passed around us . . . So I don't know.

Barb, your bee situation squelches any theories on lack of bees, LOL!!!!!!

It is interesting that you posted this thread, tho, as I have truly been over and over what I could have done differently this year (as opposed to previous seasons) that would have affected how lousy ALL my plants look this year. Nothing is as full . . . nothing is growing as well as in the past. NOTHING!! Well, my butterfly bushes are very healthy and my hydrangeas were quite full and lush. But my roses - worst I have ever had = started out great, then POOOF . . . of course, Japanese beetles are harassing the roses right now . . . but all my plants - every single one of my herbs - they are simply not growing as well as in the past. I should have big mounds of herbs and flowers right now and I do NOT!!!!
