I was elated to read about the planned Bechtler Museum. Does anyone know if it's actually under construction, or is it simply envisioned to be built at the new Wachovia campus once funding targets have been reached?

Since the Bechtler's collection includes top artists from the 20th Century, it would be nice if Charlotte could acquire some paintings and sculptures from the Renaissance through the 19th Century.

Not only is this a work in progress, but a work that is well toward completion and indeed much anticipated. As someone who is involved in providing the steel fabrication for this project, I am delighted over the Bota design as well as the personal quality of the Bechtler collection that reminds us how much more enriched our lives are to interact with living artists. As a collector of contemporary art who knows and interacts with established and emerging artists, I am awed that these great Modernists included in the Bechtler collection became their family friends. What a legacy to share with Charlotte and the world.

Yep, it’s being built. Here’s a rendering and a construction photo, both from the net….

Not every museum has to have every kind of art, the Bechtler's collection is of modern and contemporary art. Other museums have other types of art, like the Mint for instance.
