Beautiful homes, friendly people...
I know I'll be one of those families adding to the crowding of a city you once saw differently....more quaint, etc.
I understand how some of you feel about everyone moving there.
I live in Florida for 20 years, and remember this place so differently...
then everyone starting moving here.
I actually don't mind the crowd though, and all of the new building in my area.
I'm from NY, so I like convenience. lol
But I'm ready for a change, some seasons (don't care if it's hot 3 months a year...it's better than 10 months a year), a big house with a nice yard (can't afford that here) so my children can have somewhat of a suburban life...I grew up in an apartment bldg. in NY (6th floor), and own a condo here
in Florida. I want more for my kids (aged 2 and 4 now).
People talk about crime there...well, crime is everywhere.
It's here too.
I have yet to visit the area, but I have a dear friend of mine, who moved there a year ago (to Huntersville) with her family.
Can't wait to visit and check it out up there!
Thanks to this board for being such great folks!

...and very helpful too.

Any plans to come up and visit your friend in H'ville? I am very fond of H'ville myself . . . hope you can come and look around and see what you think.

We are glad to have newcomers, even if we have stated things grew too quickly. It is what it is. . . we are just gonna have to play catch up. We are lucky we are a desirable area - look what has happened in so many regions of this country - people are moving out. So it is a good thing that people want to come here. Just caught our planners by surprise.

I miss some of the open countryside but to be frank, I am into conveniences, so I like having good shopping, restaurants, entertainment, etc nearby. I think we have a good balance here. Plus - outdoor activities - all this is important to me.

I really like so many areas of Florida, but the cost of home ownership has just turned us off from retiring there. We had assumed for years that is what we would do. Now, not going that route. We like the St. Augustine area . . . easy to get to from here . . .

It is heartening to see more and more transplants who understand the resentment that locals have against them. Oddly enough most of the understanding transplants are from FL.

Fortunately most locals don't feel resentment against newcomers. Much as there is a percentage of the population that complains about their new area, there is also a percentage of locals who just wont be happy regardless of what happens.

I haven't taken a poll but I can tell you that among native North Carolinians there is a LOT of grousing about the negative impacts of growth and the target of their resentment is newcomers. I'm sure that you'll disagree and I won't be surprised to see this post deleted. The city-data mods and posters don't like for folks to post the unfiltered truth. Seriously though, I'm glad to see more and more newcomers are sympathetic to native North Carolinians who have to deal with traffic. overcrowded schools, and higher taxes through no fault of their own.
