I read this article this morning and wanted to share it in case you missed it. One of the things that disappointed me about our local lakes is the lake of beaches and swimming areas. if you aren't one of those people who own a boat or know people who own a boat, swimming near impossible. These changes aren't even in the prelim stages but at least they are thinking about it. I also think they are right it would bring some more local tourism. Even if I had a boat, if I just want to pop up to Blyth landing, I find it would be nice after a little volleyball to pop in the lake for a bit. We'll see what they come up with, but next summer could be different, in a good way.

I presume they would have to segment some more areas off and it may create less boating areas, but then who knows what could happen, less boaters maybe because they may just want a cabana on the beach.
They may actually to "create" a bit of a beach for this to work well for sure. Otherwise, the mud is good for the skin they say.
Oh my, Whytewulf! You just inspired me! All this red Carolina clay . . . maybe I could open a spa and make a fortune . . . you know - like the famous mud baths in Montecatini, Italy.

When you stated a cabana on the beach the idea of laying out on red mud just came to my mind
It's easy to make a beach. Just take a look at Jetton Park, Lake Norman State Park, or the 100s of lake front homes with beach. So red clay would not be an issue.
I am very happy to see that this is probably going to happen. I do hope that there is a fee charged that will keep freeloaders that trash parks out. I was amazed that I am unable to take a dip in the mornings as I am making my way around the park paths. It seems to be in the hands of Duke Power that will have to ensure that they won't have the liability of contending with lawsuits that are so popular these days. I suppose Lake Norman can do what other lakes do everywhere else and post the sigh that reads, "Swim at your own risk"?

As someone who grew up here swimming in both the large lakes, this idea is just not very appealing to me.
The older I get, the less I like mud between my toes.
Of course this may also be a bad thing... It may ruin the view...and by that I mean.. people in a state of undress, in which before I use to be able sit and see water. Not people trying out their speedo from their college days..
If they got it going, I would say its about time. Having a state park at Jetton or Bythe landing would be a huge revenue boost. Shops nearby would get a boost. I grew up swimming at beaches on lakes. All it takes is a bunch of sand. I think its shameful that they tout the LKN area kind of as "water fun for all", when its really "water fun for those who live on the lake or have a boat."
