I'm in the midst of a rehab that includes aHVAC system. I can't get the power/electric turned on because I am missing the front plate of my outdoor meter box. Power co.say no service. In general people say you'll never find it
too old. Found a few hours ago a lead for a guy (Shapiro) that is supposed to have a supply of these old pieces of junk boxes. He's in retirment and only shows up at his place one a week.
Approx. 11" x 11 1/4" with 7" diameter opening on center. Thought of having in made in a metal shop but the opening needs a flange which he couldn't do.
Electrican wants $1500 to change box and re-wire. Told him I'm broke. Lost all my money in banking crash in NY. Didn't get it.
Anybody know a supply house that might have this pc. of junk??

I wouldn't think a supply house would have this...you'd probably have to try a tin knocker in the charlotte area...
google sheet metal manufacturers in Charlotte and start there...that'd be my suggestion...
that's a small door...shouldn't charge you too much to do...
Is there a hardware salvage place? Not a fancy architectural salvage place but a nuts-and-bolts, door handles, switch plates, etc. kind of place. Also, you can advertise on CraigsList for free and check eBay-I found an old switchplate quite reasonale on there.

I had the same problem back at the first of the year. I lucked out and found one on Ebay. I looked all over town with no luck. You would figure they would keep the same opening.

When I first got the call I thought it was the door also. But it's not the door. This is the plate that the meter sticks out of.ie; the plate that surrounds the meter to be read outside your house. Hence, waterproof and the part of the problem that made it a little more difficult to solve at a metal worker.
Thinking of going into the "Hood" and finding a couple of hombres that need some crack money. WARNING:Everybody hold on to you meter boxes tonite!

In that case, look for houses to be demo'd and ask for it!

Are you sure this is your responsibility? The power company owns the meter, and by default, I would suspect should be responsible for the meter pan.

Interesting point but--they own the meter. You own the service box and feed. (according to Duke) No box or plate no service. They went so far as to say"if the pan is missing someone fooled with the meter" Might be right for all I know as this house was HUD owned when I bought it last month.

Is there a meter in the pan? If so, then someone absolutely fooled with the meter, as the power company puts a lock on the pan when they install the meter. If there is no meter, then there is obviously no way someone could have fooled with it- unless they stole it.

Took the liberty of sending you by email a picture of the box and I thank you for the help and suggestions you have given me already.
