Any suggestions on where to look? We have no children and are in our late 40s so we don't really want a "stroller" community. But we have dogs so we need at least 1/2 acre. Looking around $275-300,000

Try Southbridge Forest, Yorkshire or Wiltshire Manor -- these usually run a lot lower than your price point, but many have nice lot sizes, often a lot larger that what you will likely find in newer construction.
