I am relatively new to the area and I am still learning my way around Charlotte. I have a good friend of mine coming to visit this weekend. What are some places I could take her to see in Charlotte? I'm mostly interested in the Uptown area.

Thanks!

Are you looking for daytime or nighttime activities? What do you and your friend like to do?

I love the Museum of the New South. It is right near the end of the light rail line, so you could hop on for a ride after you see the museum. Get off down in Southend and see some of the gallaries, and grab a delicious malt at Pike's Old Fashioned Soda Shop

(FYI, the museum is very well done and will give you the history of how Charlotte became the city that it is - every newcomer should see it!)

Daytime activities. We like to shop, go to museums, generally explore and see interesting things.

Keep in mind, there is a home Panthers game on Sunday so getting in/out of uptown on Sunday might be a challenge. Unless you want to party it up at the tailgates around the stadium, Sunday would be a great day to head north to the Renaissance Festival - Carolina Renaissance Festival.

That is if your friend is staying through Sunday.

Thanks for the info Mountain.

Oh, I am so glad you told me that gosocial. She is staying through Monday and I will keep in mind to steer clear of Uptown Sunday!

And being an Uptown resident...TRUST me when I tell you to only park in a paid lot...there is no free parking anywhere Uptown (inside the Loop) on game day. I have seen many cars towed...so be careful!

Here are some things going on in the Uptown area Saturday...

http://www.bloctoberfest.com/

Third Ward Neighborhood Association: Picnic in the Park

Early in the day, you could also park at 7th Street Station parking garage for free, and then jump on the Lynx train and ride down to South End for lunch.

It should be a nice cool weekend. I suggest the walking tour. Charlotte Tours, Walking Tours in Charlotte - Charlotte's Got A Lot
Also, tonight is the NoDa Gallery Crawl. NoDa Home - Charlotte's Historic Arts District
Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

That's a safe assumption, but also living in uptown, I have found free parking on game day
