The best cheese burger I've ever had in all in 56 years was at Dukes Grill on Concord Ave, Monroe, NC.
If you're looking for glitz and glamor it's NOT there, this is one of those places that if you just happened to drive past it, it's not likely you'd think
"hey that looks like a good place to eat"...
Unless you happened by around lunch time and wondered, what are all those cars doing there?
It's been there since about 1952 and makes the best burgers around.

Ron

My personal favorite for a good, inexpensive burger is Five Guys. If you don't mind paying a couple extra bucks Counter is very good and you can get a variety of toppings.

The best hamburger in Charlotte is to be found at the Penguin in Plaza Midwood - and don't forget the fried pickles!

I'll second that opinion. They are out of this world! I take all my relatives from up north there and they love it too! They close at 2:00 PM and re-open at 5:00 PM. A Carolina Gem for sure!

Penguin is not bad, but for the best burger in town you have to head to Al Mike's (Alexander Michael's) on 9th uptown.

You will not be disappointed.

Herlocker was probably the best I found in Charlotte.

Five Guys wins best burger from me right now.

Al Mike's is good but too small. I'd rather not eat than go to the Penguin. Not a fan of the trendy-trash crowd that hangs out there and acts like it's the greatest thing on the planet.

I love Five Guys, but BT's Burger Joint in RiverGate is quite nice, too.
