"Charlotte-area residents now have a new — and better — choice for their television and communications services. AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) today announced the launch of AT&T U-verseSM TV and AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet in the area..."
Look out Time Warner. I personally have Dish Network and love it but will be looking into AT&T's new services. I'm especially interested in their faster DSL offering.
It offers HD TV DVR services, high speed Internet (faster than regular AT&T DSL; up to 18mbps!), and phone services. It runs off of a fiber optic network. Check out AT&T's U-Verse website for more info (I don't work for AT&T.)

Thank you so much for the info! I use AT&T long distance, and my DSL is thru/ BellSouth (wh/ I guess is AT&T now) . . . as well as my cell. I am very disappointed w/ Time Warner, altho their techs have usually been quite helpful (w/ only a few exceptions). I am interested in making a change, but only if it will actually improve service.
I'd like to know where in Charlotte it is available. I put in 4 or 5 addresses from North, South, East and West areas and they all came up as unavailable.

I tried that as well, don't seem to be around, though maybe by the time by Dish Network contract is up it may be.
I've commented many times on this service so please forgive me if it's a repeat.
Regardless of what the news announcements say, u-verse is not in charlotte like Time warner is in Charlotte. They started upgrading equipment in uptown back in like may or june.
Basically it is an expanded version of DSL with a much higher capacity. It is some-what comparable to Verizon's FIOS. While Verizon will run fiber optic cable to your curb, AT&T will run fiber optic cable to a distribution box and will rely on the existing copper wiring for the "last mile" to your home.
The TV signal is reported to be sluggish while changing channels as you're not getting all the channels at once like cable. You only get streamed the channels you're watching when you're watching them.
If you want more information on this just google it or search u-verse on CD. I don't want to repeat myself too much.
But I for one will be trying it out when available. I hate Time Warner's Service.
I hate Time Warner as well. This appears to be a much cheaper option as well and they have WGN HD for my Cubs. Unfortunately, its not in my area yet (Ballantyne). I was really looking forward to Verizon FIOS.
Charlotte is not in a Verizon market. Therefore; they would have to completely install a new backbone in charlotte to bring FiOS to us. AT&T is our local provider so we're stuck with u-verse.
It seems that uptown is ready for u-verse and you can sign up online.
Location: Some got six month some got one solid. But me and my buddies all got lifetime here

It must be a website issue because my zip code came up for me yesterday. I didn't see the NHL Network being offered, which was an instantaneous "no sale" on my part.
