Here is who we have used in the past. It is a local family owned business, and Mr. Hilton has been doing this for over 30 years. My in-laws used him to redo a love seat and were pleasantly pleased. He has done pillows and small projects for me over the last 10 years.

I am not in Charlotte, but in an area where prices would be expected to be less. We have a 50+ year old chair we wanted reupholstered. Recently, in September, took it to three places and in all cases it was $500 plus. Cheaper to buy a new chair, except sentimental value.... so we paid pretty big bucks.
In all three cases the first question asked was "How old is the chair?" These guys will not touch a chair newer than 10 of 15 years due to shoddy workmanship. That surprised me. (By the way please do not flame me for the "shoddy workmanship" statement -- it was the craftsmens' term, not mine)
