I realize that many of you may not have lived here when Hope Stout first visited Keith Larson's show on WBT. Tommorow is the 5 year anniversity of her visit. Keith will be doing a special show that will include Hope's full interview.
Hope Stout was 12 years old when she was diagnosed with cancer. When the Make-A-Wish foundation asked what she wanted she said that she wanted to grant the wishes of all the other sick children in our area (over 150). People throughout our area rallied together to make this little girl's wish come true. It was such a wonderful time to be in Charlotte. So many people came together , there was a tremendous feeling of community spirit. Hope died on Jan. 4, 2004. Her wish was granted on Jan. 16, 2004 when a fundraiser called Celebration of Hope raised over $1 million. The fundraiser continues and the next one will be held Friday, January 30th at the Westin in uptown.
I remember when that happened. What a special little girl who obviously came from a warm, loving and supportive family. Her family wrote a book about her, and I believe her story is being made into a television movie.
If I remember correctly, this was when the Panthers went to the Super Bowl, and the Panthers were involved in the Celebration of Hope - contributed a lot to the auction.
