What part of the metro area will you be working in?

You should go to carolinahome.com and put in Union County. Friends of mine live in the Holly Park and Taylor Glenn developments. Brandon Oaks is also really nice. They have both been there for a few years and love it. The schools are also great. Good luck.

I can speak for the schools since I don't have kids but we like living in Matthews. We live on the Mecklenburg county side and our house was under 250 with a basement and 4 bedrooms. Uptown Charlotte is about 30 minutes away during rush hour traffic (13 miles).

We live in Union - Indian Trail - and the schools are great, we have a son in 1st grade. The price point you are looking at should be no problem also.
Where are you going to be working? That could influence where you should look. If you are comming here without jobs the market is not very good right now.
