Monroe is the county seat of Union County and includes a pretty neat historic district. I ran across a link that does a pretty good job of giving an overview of the historic district and downtown retail section. Thought I'd share it for those who have an interest.

In particular, there are some very good map links on that site under the page Downtown Monroe Master Plan.

I have been downtown Monroe a number of times, there are some nice historic houses in the area. I had jury duty last year downtown and had the toughest time finding more than a couple places I wout eat at. My daughter goes to CATA near there and we always seem to have to go to Rt 74 to find food, has this changed recently?
