I have family coming into town, and they mentioned wanting to go out in NODA saturday day/evening...I;ve looked a few places up, but any input would be much appreciated....I am thinking we will take a cab so we can avoid all of the driving/parking...just not sure which places are best?
And Cabo Fish Taco- that's in Noda correct? Thanks ! The family coming to visit are late twenties/early thirties and love beer & wine...
Yes, Cabo is in NODA...at the corner of Davidson and 35th Street, which is pretty much the epicenter of NODA (its a fairly small neighborhhod). The 2 best breweries (IMO) in NODA are Heist and NODA Brewing. Heist is the closest to NODA proper, but its at Davidson and 29th Street. NODA Brewing is at Davidson and 22nd street, probably too far to walk to, although any day now they are going to move to Tryon Street. Not sure if the new location is walkable or not.
Growlers Pourhouse is a great place to sample beers, almost across the street form Cabo.
Dolce Vita is a fun wine bar near Cabo.
FYI, Cabo gets mobbed on weekend nights. Either eat early, or plan on a long wait.

Noda's new location does not officially open until October 1.

True, but they did not go far. They are still on N. Davidson, but at the other end between 13th and Belmont (just a few blocks from 277)
If you stop by Noda brewing, you can walk across the street to Free Range Brewing's tap house. They are relatively new, but solid.

Agreed on Growler's. There is also Revolution pizza, which generally has a great tap list. And about a block up you have Salud - a great bottle shop that has a nice (albeit smaller) tap selection. Salud also has food, but its mostly sadnwiches and such - kind of like a permanent food truck built into the back room (good food, but just letting you know in case you are looking for more of a sit down and be waited on kind of place).

We frequently take a ride in and out of Noda instead of driving ourselves, simply because parking can be crazy and because we end up having several beers. So I will just say that getting a cab, especially back home on a Saturday night, could take a while. Look into using Uber instead. We usually have no issue getting a car within 5 minutes on a Friday or Saturday night, and the rate to get us all the way back to the Steele Creek area is less than half of what the cabs here will charge us.
Skip Heist and definitely hit up Free Range Brewery (across the street from Noda Brewery). They are much better than "solid". They are making excellent and innovative brews. Noda Brewery is always a must.
Birdsong is my favorite, the Jalapeno Pale Ale is the best, and goes perfectly with the free peanuts. It is, however, more of a drive or bike-ride away from "downtown NoDa", or a hike (it's technically in Belmont/Optimist Park). But worth it! And you can hop over to Free Range Brewing in between the Birdsong and NoDa.
