I'm going to Charlotte (from CA) in September to look for a house. I can only afford around 100 to 125K. I will probably be working mainly in Charlotte. So I was just wondering, what are the advantages and disadvantages to each? For example, higher taxes in Charlotte, but less commute time would be the first thing that comes to mind. But what IS an average commute time in to the city? How much more are the taxes? Any information would be so helpful.
Also, I know I can't afford very much house, but are there zip codes that anyone can give me to either look in or stay away from?
Oh, and also, I have no kids, so schools are not a consideration.
Thanks,
Cheryl

We live in Lincoln County. My husband works in near downtown Charlotte and his drive is about 45 minutes. We were able to buy a 2100 sf house on 2 acres for about $150K.
It all depens on what you're looking for.
We were looking for the country feeling and the drive in to Charlotte is beautiful.
We found the drive in to Charlotte from the south (Monroe, Matthews, etc.) unbearable for our tastes. The drive from Statesville is bad, too.
