These mouthwatering mollusks are the classic aphrodisiac and there's research to support it. Raw oysters are very high in zinc which raises the sperm and testosterone production thus increases libido..

Where can I find good, fresh oysters in Charlotte???

Very bored right now so need to post crazyness.

Don't eat oysters except in months that have an R in them.

So go to Charleston in September.

Last time I checked, there were no oyster beds in Lake Norman.

The R month thing has to do with the life cycle of an oyster, not the old myth of past lack of refrigeration. They are rather watery and bland in the summer months. Can't help you on where to get them, just that now is not the best time. I also don't jump on them as soon as September rolls around, more like the end of Sept.

If I can't actually see an ocean, I'm not eating raw oysters... at least if you are close to the ocean, there is a good chance they are fresh. I don't want my "fresh" seafood to have a long road trip before it gets to me.

You got it. I don't care who is guaranteeing oysters are fresh - I only eat raw ones when I am sitting by the ocean. That's why I suggested Charleston.

And SouthernBelle is correct - oysters really are better in R months, LOL. We were always taught that one should go for other seafood in the summer, as the oysters are best later in the year - starting in September.

I like raw oysters, but I am scared to eat them now even if I can see the ocean. Slighted steamed in the shell is also very good and a lot safer. However if you go to SC, I would recommend Murrels Inlet, SC for these things as there are major oyster beds right there so they are guaranteed to be very fresh.

Keep in mind that in SC, the oyster beds are closed between mid-May and September 1st, so if you get any oysters in a restaurant during this period, they are probably brought in from Louisiana.

I love raw oysters!!! I'll eat them wherever or whenever. Lol. Believe it or not, Hickory Tavern has really good raw oysters. I've only had one questionable one sent out and I pointed it out to the server and she prompty replaced it. Their Mignonette is really good too, but they call it Oyster Wash. Lol.

Most Chinese buffets have raw oysters but for the freshest, go to the coast. The old adage about not eating oysters in months beginning with a "R" doesn't apply these days since refrigeration has entered the picture. I lived on the Gulf coast and ate oysters all year like most other people there. It was found that Cassanova wasn't the great lover because of oysters, it was the Lance crackers that he would put them on.

I know this sounds odd -- but some of the larger Harris Teeters have them in bags of 12. I've purchased them several times, they always have a date/source tag on them to verify freshness and where they were harvested.
