I just got a speeding ticket in GA going 83 in a 70mph zone. 18 months ago, I got a speeding ticket in Charlotte & used the prayer for judgment, as I had a clean driving record (I think this ticket was for going 5 mph over the speed limit). I went to driving school then.

I can't believe I got this ticket! The cop was hiding behind bushes. I know I was speeding, but I'm pretty sure I was only going 80 (not 83). Also, the cop wrote that the roads were wet & that it was raining at the time of the ticket. This was not true. It started raining as he handed me back my license with the ticket.

Am I correct to assume that the ticket I received in GA will get reported to NC? How will this affect the prayer for judgment I took 18 months ago? If I don't get an attorney, can anyone tell me how this will affect my insurance rates? I am sick about this, because I have never had any points on my driver's license.

Well...if you're that concerned about points on your license, then maybe you just need to slow the heck down.

You know you were in the wrong, you got busted, deal with it.

Well thanks, that was really helpful. I'm sure you have never driven over the speed limit in your life, right?

I got a ticket in Virginia and it was reported. I have no idea if there's an "agreement" between certain states and others though....or if points transfer or not.

You might get 3 points . the other ticket was so minor it shouldnt matter. It might take several months for your insurance company to find out and up your rate. It should not go up much but if you are under 25 and male and also carry collision on your car the collision is the one that will go up the most.

My husband got a speeding ticket in Virginia also ~ about 6 years ago. It took 5 years for it to come off of his record. Our rate did go down by.....maybe $50-70 a month.

Everyone speeds that's a fact. Just sucks when your the one they catch. I've seen cops pull over more than one car on the highway. Sorry about your bad luck.

I understand that insurance points stay on for a period of 36 months. The time starts when you get a final conviction. A lawyer can appeal and stall and delay the time you get convicted but the 36 months starts then. Never heard of points being active for 5 years?

I'm pretty sure it was five years. Could have been 3, time is moving way too fast for me these days.

Except no.
I'd be willing to bet that almost everyone has speeded (sped?) at least once, but to say that everyone speeds? Simply not true.

As for the topic, or at least getting a little closer to it, I got a ticket for speeding in West Virginia (what? I didn't say I don't speed, just that not everyone does!), and it didn't get reported to my insurance company or to Michigan (where I was living at the time).
