If you have all seats in the car occupied by Adults, can a small child sit in lap? Or is it law that child has to sit in a Child Seat only, whatever be the condition?

I understand the safety issue, but what's the law on this?

I believe it says they have to be in some type of child seat until they are 8 years old or 80 lbs. I know the 8/80 is right, I am just not sure how it is worded, but a lap wouldn't be allowed.

why would you even second guess this is beyond me.
Nothing like using a kid as a missile. Front or back adults have to be buckled. its the law
if the kid is younger than 16 they must be fastened
if the kid is less than 8 and only 80 pounds they should have a functional child seat

Child must be properly secured. Stack the adults up, not the kid!

Is the law 8 years old OR 80lbs, or is it 8 years old AND at least 80 lbs? I have an 8 year old, but she doesn't weigh 80 lbs. It would be a shame to get a child-safety-seat ticket my first week in Charlotte.

Yes, it's either or. Otherwise my 14 yo high school freshman would be very upset to still be sitting in a booster seat. She doesn't weigh quite 80 lbs yet either. LOL!!
