My wife and I are moving to Fort Mill next month from Charleston, SC. One thing we will miss is the atmosphere of a restaurant on the water. We will be near Lake Wylie and wondered if there were any drive up(boat) restaurants/bars on the lake. Any information on Lake Wylie or Lake Norman would be great. Thanks
Since you also asked about Lake Norman, I can certainly help you with that. I think others may know more about Lake Wylie; all I know if is T-Bones down there.
Nothing better than dining on the water!
I think this one is the best for quiet waterfront dining:

As WADES has mentioned above...the only restaurant currently on Lake Wylie is T Bones

(looking at the picture on their site..you can dock your boat just to the right of the restaurant)
There is another lakeside restaurant..that's currently being built...on the opposite side of Buster Boyd Bridge (Charlotte side). But whether it will have dock access...seems to still be up in the air?
Thanks for the input. I am really surprised that there are not more dockable eateries/bars on the lake. That is a huge deal down here for all of the water front restaurants. Seems to be a missed opportunity that would do very well especially in the spring and summer.

Well, I think there are a variety of reasons why there are not more lakeside restaurants...but a few reasons off the top of my head are...it has not been that long ago that Lake Wylie was considered out in the boonies...on the SC side we still have some Blue Laws in effect (in regard to alcohol)...and lastly Duke has the final approval on whether or not they will allow docks.
Course that is not to say that we don't have some excellent restaurants around the lake (which we do)...just nothing other than T-Bones on the lake right now

Another question is; is there any way to get a boat from Wylie to Norman with out going over pavement (Channels, locks etc)? We love the Fort Mill area, it just seems Norman is a much more vibrant lake right now. Any hope of this changing?

Nada - not unless your boat sprouts wings. Seriously though...we are not even close to the size of Lake Norman.

Well, for many of us that live on/off Lake Wylie...it is already vibrant enough...while for many others...they wish it had continued to fly/stay under the radar.
