Customers feel soaked by water bills - CharlotteObserver.com (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/topstories/story/1200565.html - broken link)

My DH works with a guy who disputed his water bill last month and was threatened with disconnection if he didn' t pay. He pleaded with the company that it had to be incorrect.

I know there are several members who have posted about this , so thought this article was interesting, to say the least!

This happened to me a couple of months ago. Water bill averages $15-$25/month. I don't water grass. All of a sudden it zoomed in one month to $275. I called them to raise some hell. They claimed my meter was broken and was fixed. I asked how they knew how much water I used if the meter was broken. No answer for that question.

In any case, I told them that I would pay but only if they would charge it at the lower usage rate since it wasn't fair to hit me with the heavy user premium. This knocked the bill down by $100 so I paid it. I still think I was ripped off.

The city councils need to go clean up the incompetance in CMUD. Will they do it. No. The bubble heads never take any responsibility for anything.

A good place to report stuff like this is The Consumerist. They print a lot stories about consumers getting ripped off.
