I am visiting Charlottesville for a few days and would like suggestions on what to do. Nothing too touristy, I want to experience the real place and do/see what makes Charlottesville unique. Thanks!

Check out the Downtown Mall. There are often some nice shows at The Jefferson and The Paramount. Great restaurants, especially if you like Italian or Thai. Many of the places downtown have live entertainment. Check out The Southern. There are a bunch of local breweries, check out Champion Brewery, South Street Brewery, and the C'ville-ian.

It's a little bit of a drive (20 miles West of Charlottesville), but I would also highly recommend Blue Mountain Brewery in Nelson County too. Great beer, scenery and atmosphere! It's one of my most favorite Virginia breweries. I would also recommend Bodo's Bagels downtown... Really awesome bagels...
