I have heard there is a residential area near Rock City that is quite beautiful and old. I was told it has kind of a European feel to it with many homes having a stone/rock exterior. Does anyone have any info on this area such as price of homes, amenities nearby etc. I am considering a move to Chattanooga soon and this sounds like an area of town that i have always dreamed of living in. Thanks for any input.

Um, that area, if it's the one I'm thinking of, is one of more expensive ones in the area. $1M+ and some are as high was $10M+. Ain't cheap.

Assuming you can find a house there for sale.... You're going to be looking at a minimum of $500,000 for a smaller, older house in that neighborhood. Lookout mountain, particularly around the point of the mountain, is a very expensive neighborhood.

To be honest, there isn't much up on the mountain anyway. Is there even a gas station up there? I don't think so. I don't mind living out away from things, but 30 minutes to get gas or milk? No thanks. We did that once in PA, and I don't want to do that again unless I live in the mountains of Montana.

If I am correct I think it was called Fairy Land or something like that.

There is a gas station and a few small shops. However that is about it. You'll be going to the foot of the mountain to get groceries and whatnot.

Beautiful, Family Oriented area. I just ran a search of "Fairyland" and 9 active listings turned up. Range is from $210K to $1.888mm. 5 are under $315K. There are more than that but it's hard to focus the search because there is no "Official Subdivision" and the GA zip code covers much of the GA side of LM.

There IS a market (fresh veggies/fruit, prepared food, packaged food, milk, oj, eggs...etc..) on the TN side of Lookout Mountain which is now undergoing renovations and new ownership but will re-open this month. You will not need to drive 30 mins to pick up milk, etc - you can also drive down the mountain (10 mins) to Bi-Lo at the foot.

For those residents living on the GA side (let's say near Rock City) 8-10 min drive to the foot of the mountain (St. Elmo) where there are cafes, stores, gas station, grocery store, etc.) Gas station is on the GA side of Lookout Mountain, by the way.

Also, you most certainly can find a charming house for way less than the above stated $500,000. Try realtor.com and type in the zips 30750 (GA side) or 37350 (TN side of the mountain.) You will probably be pleasantly surprised. It is a wonderful, picturesque and friendly area to live in.

P.S. Amenities on Lookout Mountain include: pharmacy, primary doctor's office, banks, 2 gas stations, Starbucks Cafe, a great pizza restaurant, a spa, wine & liquor store, market, cafe, dentist office, veteranarian, gift shops, etc. There are some residents that I know who do not have to leave the mountain for a week if they work from home. Plenty of conveniences up there.
