Relocating to Bridgeport, AL to work at the Google Data Center. Company informed me to look in Chattanooga for housing. How bad will my commute be? Areas to look at closer? Help

I wonder why they would tell you that? I don't know anything about the Bridgeport area but I would look around there, maybe even Scottsboro, Alabama. You have South Pittsburgh, Tennessee directly across the river from Bridgeport, Chattanooga is maybe 20-25 miles using I-24, which is the main artery going to Nashville. Always a well traveled piece of roadway, even more so during the mornings and evenings.

Yeah, and if you work in Alabama you are going to pay Alabama income taxes even if you live in TN.

Will google be providing a bus from Chattanooga? That's might make the commute tolerable.

What about Jasper, TN. That would be an easy commute but you'd be close enough to Chat for socializing on the weekends.

Probably because they're not familiar with the area and looked at a map and found the nearest city they'd heard of.

Scottsboro would be a good actual town to live in (Bridgeport isn't really a "town" - population only about 2K.). Scottsboro is small, but a decent place, and a nice house would be considerably more affordable than in Chattanooga. The traffic on I-24 oftimes comes to a standstill.

Scottsboro won't gain you much over Chattanooga... about the same distance.

Biggest problem in commuting from Chatt will be the time zone change (AL is Central, Chatt is Eastern). Second biggest will be the interstate bottleneck between the I-59 intersection and Chatt. It can get jacked up for the slightest reasons.

Looking in TN, try S. Pittsburg/Jasper/Kimball area just to the north. A friend of mine lives there and commutes to downtown Chattanooga.

There's Bridgeport itself. Stevenson is nearby.
