Which suburb will be the most beautiful to go for a hiking trip on a weekend.
I wouldnt like to greeted with malls, theatres and stuff.
Just some beautiful landscape, lakes and laid-back houses would be a nice place to go exploring.
Any advice is appreciated.
I am in down-town Chicago.

The DuPage Co Forest Preserves are better maintained than those in most parts of Cook Co, as are those in Kane Co.

To do some more serious hiking I'd head to the State Parks

Find a Preserve

DuPage County Forest Preserves

More downstate are White Pines and Starved Rock, though they get crowded..

Come down to Will County Forest Preserves!! I say this not because I may or may not be on thier payroll but because it's a good idea..

Goodnow Grove and Racoon Grove are great places for hiking, bird watching and eating a a picnic in the park. The Monee Resovoir has a nice little lake with great fishing and boating options. You will not be greeted by strip malls and subdivisions but cornfields, prairie and country road. And don't forget to also check out Thorn Creek which has some great long hiking trails and a nature center that is always having some cool event going on for kids and adults alike. Come on down!!
