Hi,

In Dec. 2011 we will be relocating to Chicago. My husband and I previously lived in downtown Chicago before moving overseas, but now life will be different for us because next December we will be moving back with a 2 and a half year old and a 4 month old. My husband will be working downtown in the loop and we both want to move to a suburb to raise our children. I would like to move to a middle class suburb, but have no experience with Chicago suburbs.

We can spend about $275K max on a house. I have been hearing a lot about the northwest suburbs but am having a tough time trying to figure out what would be best for us. To complicate things a bit, it's not very accessible for us to drive around the suburbs looking for a community that would best fit our needs!

My wishlist includes:

1. Good public school system
2. 4 bedroom house
3. An hour-ish commute for my husband by train
4. Somewhere near health care facilities so I can find a job (I'm a nurse)
5. Safe community

ANY and ALL feedback would be SO APPRECIATED!!!!

Thank you!

My wishlist includes:

1. Good public school system - Check. Part of it feeds into Barrington 220 schools.
2. 4 bedroom house - This might be hard to find for your budget.
3. An hour-ish commute for my husband by train Check, as long as you don't mind a 10-15 min commute to train station.
4. Somewhere near health care facilities so I can find a job (I'm a nurse) Check. Home to St. Alexius Hospital.
5. Safe community Check
Hoffman Estates.

Default Lots of better options...

Honestly there is hardly any town in the region where there are not some outstanding opportunities:

Arlington Heights could also go on that list, depending on what size/condition you want with your 4 bedrooms.

But really, don't rush to buy a place the minute you get here. At least rent short term, even if just for the fact that the winter real estate market is dismal. You will have a lot more choice once spring comes around and you've had some time to get a feel for a few places and it's not like your kids will be in school already.
