I did a search and there's a few topics on this but not a whole lot. Kind of the same story with internet searches, really nothing conclusive saying its bad for you or fine for you.

Obviously perception is that it's bad so probably not great for resale but assuming your going to be in the house for a while and get a good deal on it would you buy a home with power lines in the back yard?

What kind of power lines? Residential or big high-powered lines? If it's the latter, then absolutely not.

You can buy pocket sized gizmos that will read the amount of "energy" from the line. There is a fairly powerful line four houses away. I think it helps with the reception of my tin foil hat.....which I use for countless investigations.

I would want a reading and compare it to others. You never know what is flowing through a given line until you get a reading.

There have been studies that showed adverse affects to being close to high powered lines.

I spent the night under a low,(maybe 15 feet?) high powered line once...I was backpacking. I thought I could feel it a bit. I also felt a bit different the next day.

While the Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) generated by the power lines are less than EMF produced by many appliances, the effect on property values is profound, so insist on a sizable discount if you buy.

I've lived next to a transformer, had one in the front yard in another house and had one on a pole in a third. I now live in the city in a mixed residential area with high voltage power lines outside my house. The worst effects I ever suffered was no power when the transformers died. They pop and smoke like the dickens. My dad is an engineer and I asked about ill effects. His only comment was, 'it isn't a very good idea to hang on the lines, otherwise you'll be fine.' That was 30 years ago and I am still healthy as the preverbial horse, all things considered.

You will probably have a hard time selling it to someone who believes the old wive's tales.

Going ghost hunting? "It was at this point that our EMF detectors spiked... OH WOW GUYS LOOK AT THIS I GOT A 2.2!!! It was also at this point when our digital recorder picked up this very EVP or voice phenomenon, if you listen closely you can hear it say something about Zak, "Zaaaakkksss on roiiiidddss""
