Many of you have seen the sign "Flowerfield" Illinois as you turn the curve on Old Rte. 53 between Roosevelt and St. Charles rd.
But what is it? A Google search actually pulls it up as a town, but there is no town site, nor a Wikipedia. Is it a subdivision, or truly a field of flowers? Anyone know of the history of this area (sign) that is near Lombard/Glen Ellyn?

There have been articles on this in the various local papers. It is much like Keenyville -- and unicorporated place that has a tight enough group of neighbors that can request the various County & Township level officials post signage / acknowledge their status.

As I recall back when DuPage Co had a special DUI awareness with the State's Attorney they even got signs that said "Flowerfield arrests drunk drivers" which was pretty silly as they had no police force other than County Sherif and no other way of prosecuting such a case...

Probably a case where the various officials just "rubber stamp" the requests with minimmal thought...

The unincorporated nonentity had more standing before I-355, now known as Veterans Memorial Tollway, was built. There was a lot more through traffic on Rt 53.

Any idea why it's called "Flowerfield"? There doesn't appear to be a field of flowers near the sign ...

I used to wonder why there were signs along the road with a name but no population figures. They of course never incorporated, but in some cases have, or once had, Post Offices. I agree that the origin of the name "Flowerfield" is a mystery.
