We're considering a move to the Chicago area. Dad's job would be in Hammond. We have a 6 year old and I'm a former elementary school teacher who would like to go back to work within the next 2 years. What areas would you suggest we look at for housing? We want a safe, family atmosphere with good schools. I'm also looking into air quality (pollution, ozone, pollen counts) and need excellent health care available. Dad should not have more than a 1/2 hour commute (or so I'd like). We'd prefer a single family home with a yard for our child to play in and our dogs--I would have said upper middle class but looking at housing prices that could end up being middle-class.
We won't know until we see whether the cost of living would be relected in the new pay scale. Any recommendations would be appreciated. We're trying to see if this is an area where we would like to live and be able to afford to live the way we want to... |
